5 Star Garage Door Service trains Shepherd, MI technicians on this exact service line so you're not the one teaching them on the job.
Every Shepherd, MI technician on this service line carries documentation you can ask to see, and we expect the question.
We check both cables and both drums together, since wear rarely happens in isolation.
Galvanized aircraft cable resists fraying far longer than standard cable in humid Shepherd, MI conditions.
Improper cable work while springs are loaded is a real injury risk.
A visibly fraying cable is treated as a near-term emergency.
Even a few loose strands mean a cable is close to failing under load — we inspect both cables even when only one shows visible wear.
A cable that's already snapped usually means the door dropped or hangs crooked — we never operate a door on a snapped cable.
A cable that's slipped off its drum causes uneven hanging — worn or cracked drums get replaced rather than reused.
Extension spring systems should run safety cables to prevent whip-back — it's a quick, affordable safety upgrade.
The bracket anchoring the cable to the door corrodes over time — this is a less obvious but equally important part of the system.
Reach a live dispatcher at +1-866-597-3069 and describe what's going on with your door.
A stocked Shepherd, MI truck heads your way, usually with a same-day arrival window.
We diagnose the actual cause and explain the fix in plain terms before quoting.
{Work is completed and tested through a full cycle before we call the job finished.|We verify safety function and smooth operation before asking for your sign-off.|Workmanship is backed by our guarantee, not just a handshake.}
"""Second cable was close to going too. Glad they checked both instead of just the one that snapped."""
"""Noticed a few frayed strands and called before it got worse. Tech said it was close to snapping."""
"""Cable snapped and the door dropped crooked. They stabilized it fast and had it fixed same day."""
"""Didn't know safety cables were even a thing until they pointed out mine were missing."""
"""Quick, professional, explained exactly what was worn and why."""
If only one shows wear, we'll say so rather than upsell the second.
A door suddenly hanging crooked is another common indicator.
Yes — a snapped cable under spring tension can cause the door to drop suddenly.
We don't recommend it — cables work under spring tension requiring proper tools.
Many older doors were installed without them — we can add them as a standalone upgrade.
We check cable condition as part of any service call, even unrelated ones.
We keep Shepherd coverage tight enough to hold same-day response standards for this service.
Coverage for this service matches our general Shepherd service area, with the same flat-rate pricing and guarantee.
Local Shepherd reviews are where most new customers find this service, and that reputation is something we work to keep.
